During the months of February and March, hundreds of Canada’s best and brightest start-ups submitted their applications to the Backbone Start Me Up Innovation Campaign, which offered Canadian Business and Technology start-ups the opportunity to win $100,000 in prizes. After receiving and evaluating the applications, Backbone invited 10 finalists to participate in a live pitch event on May 6th at the TMX Gallery in Toronto.

Once the event got underway, all finalists received 10 minutes to convince a panel of industry experts that their product or service represented the best of the best on the Canadian innovation scene. At the end of this event, the winner and the runner up were announced:

Edsby, a cloud-based social learning platform that encourages teachers, students and parents to engage with each other, won first place and received $85,000 in prizes.

– Po-Motion, a start-up out of Winnipeg which makes interactive projection software to create and customize engaging floor and wall displays, was named the runner up and took home $15,000 in prizes.

Bell was proud to be a Gold Sponsor of the 2013 Backbone Innovation Campaign and we congratulate Edsby, Po-Motion, and all of the participants in this year’s campaign.
