How to ace the video questionnaire

Posted September 26, 2017 in Inside Bell, Tips by 0

Bell offers potential candidates the opportunity to take a video questionnaire, as part of their screening process.

How does it work?

After submitting your application (if you’re a successful candidate) you’ll receive an e-mail indicating that you have 48 hours to complete your online video questionnaire. These questionnaires consist of 4 to 6 questions, which allow us to get to know you better, assess your fit with Bell, and your qualification for the position. Each question will appear on the screen for 30 seconds, which is then followed by a 2-3 minute answer period.

How do I ace the video questionnaire?

We know that these types of questionnaires can be awkward at times. But with these tips, you’ll be ready for the video questionnaire in no time:

1. Find a quiet, distraction-free, and well-lit space

We want to be able to see and hear you – and only you. Make sure you won’t be interrupted, so you can focus on giving your best answer, and that you won’t be cut off by a pet or well-intentioned loved one.

2. Test your technology before beginning the questionnaire

Unfortunately, there are no do-overs in the video questionnaire. Make sure everything is working properly before you start the questionnaire – that way, you can fix any unexpected problems in advance.

3. Position the camera so it’s at eye-level

You are speaking to our recruiters directly through the video questionnaire. It is important that we are able to see you. Pretend you are talking to a person – maintain eye contact and be professional.

4. Review your resume and understand how your skills relate to the position

If you’ve read our previous blog about resume building, you’ve already tailored your resume to include the skills the job posting is requesting. Ensure that you are familiar with the skills you need to highlight in order to be a top candidate.

5. Take advantage of the practice question

Practice makes perfect. Get a feel for what the video questionnaire will be like by practicing the practice question. That’s what it’s there for after all!

6. Show us your personality

Don’t be afraid to shine and be yourself. Tell us all about who you are and what you do. You’re the star!

7. Keep calm, dress for success, smile, and have fun!

An interviewer will be watching your video once submitted, so treat it just like an in-person interview. Remember to relax and you’ll do your best!
